Out ‘n’ About Nipabout

The Out ‘n’ About Nipabout is a smart looking 3 wheel all terrain pushchair. Unusually for a 3 wheel off road pushchair, the Nipabout both forward and parent faces. The seat turns round really easily. There are 3 recline settings in both directions. The seat is a bucket seat and so is suitable from 6 months old. However the Nipabout also comes with carrycot fabric so that the frame can be converted into a carrycot or seat unit depending on the age of your child.

In the box the Out ‘n’ About Nipabout comes with the chassis and large wheels, a foam covered frame, the seat fabric, the carrycot fabric and a raincover. The large wheels are slightly spongey to the feel which is better than hard plastic wheels, but it is also possible to buy air tyres for the Nipabout. It is also possible to add on a Maxi-Cosi Cabriofix infant car seat using adaptors.

As our photos show we took the Nipabout to the beach to test how well it drove both on the flat, on cambers and off kerbs, and of course, across the beach and pebbles. All round we were very impressed with the Nipabout. It feels much sturdier than it looks. It feels very grounded to push and surprisingly for a 3 wheeler, it is not back heavy. The handle is fixed, but it was perfect for me at 5ft 6ins tall.

The Nipabout fabrics were good quality and fitted onto the frame easily. We felt the quilted hood was a little old fashioned, but it was good to have a lined hood and definitely gave a feeling of quality and good finish. The hood is a good size and also could be easily pulled taut which makes the Nipabout look really smart. The rear of the seat has strips of hard board or plastic in to give the child good back support.

The Out ‘n’ About Nipabout harness was quite a basic one, but it was easy to adjust. There are two height settings, and we liked that there was a choice of two crotch strap settings to prevent a young child slumping and to give an older child more room.

The bumper bar is foam covered, fitted on easily and best of all, it swings away which makes access to the child much easier.

The Nipabout seat was really easy to swap around, simply by pressing the two round black seat release buttons. It was possible to release the seat one handed which was great!! Very easy to do. The seat is light as well.

The seat recline is done using the white slider buttons near the footrest. It does take two hands to recline the seat but again it was easy enough to do.

The basket is fairly small – in some ways it looks a little dwarfed compared to the chassis space underneath the Nipabout. I have been informed that the larger Bugaboo Frog basket fits underneath the Out ‘N’ About Nipabout, and even that the main seat fabrics fit. But I have not tried, so please don’t take my word for it!

The Nipabout footbrake is easy to flick on and off and it feels solid when engaged.

We absolutely loved the one touch front wheel lock / swivel on the Out ‘n’ About Nipabout. To be honest its the best wheel lock I have seen to date. It was a pleasure to just touch the button and the wheel lock or swivel! We locked the front wheel to go through banks of pebbles at the top of the beach and the Nipabout handled them all with ease. Soft sand was no problem either. The Nipabout went straight across everything! The Out ‘n’ About Nipabout felt fine across a steep camber and we had no issue with kerbs, although, being a 3 wheeler, we are always cautious when dropping off a kerb. We also loved the huge suspension springs on the front wheel.

I will confess to not quite having worked the fold out. I have been letting Mr BB do it to date because it looks complicated! I get so far and then get stuck! But I am sure I will work it out! The fold is relatively long but neat. It fitted easily into our car (there are a couple of bags underneath the seat unit in the photo).

All round we really really liked the Out ‘n’ About Nipabout. Sadly these pushchairs have now been discontinued, but they are well worth keeping an eye out for on Ebay.
