Foppapedretti MYO at the Harrogate Nursery Fair

I think the Foppapedretti MYO has to take the prize for the most expensive pushchair at the Harrogate Nursery Fair 2012 with a price tag of a cool £2040!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WOW!

So what do you get for your money? To be honest you are paying £1100 for a very small motor to help you push your Foppapedretti MYO up hill or to generally assist you pushing!

The non motorised MYO costs £940.

The non-motorised Foppapedretti MYO gives a complete package of a neat folding chassis with a stylish handlebar that is bound to turn heads; the reversible seat unit with 3 forward recline positions and 2 parent facing recline positions; a carrycot; car seat; carrycot / car seat adaptor, changing bag and snuggle toes. The car seat base and car carrycot kit are extras. So the package is fairly competitively priced considering everything you really need is included.

The motorised Foppapedretti MYO has a small motor mounted on the chassis underneath the seat unit. This is controlled via two buttons on the handlebar which need pressing in to make it go. When released the pushchair motor immediately stops. There is also (very wisely) a wrist tether strap!

The carrycot fixes at three points – two on the adaptor and then onto the handlebar at the front. The seat was extremely well padded – several cms thick – there’s no doubt that a smaller child would be extremely comfortable in the seat unit. There is a very small basket.

The Foppapedretti MYO is yet to undergo UK safety testing to see if it can go on sale here.

To be honest the Foppapedretti MYO itself looked interesting. It won a reddot design award in 2011. It seemed easy enough to use although the demonstrator struggled to find the seat removal button (under the front of the seat) We personally see very little need for a motor on a single. However, as a double pushchair user, I know many times we have wished for some kind of push assist on a double pushchair, especially up steep hills. However I am not sure I would want to pay the extra £1100 for the pleasure.
