Silver Cross Wave

There is a new single to tandem pushchair on the way from Silver Cross.

The Silver Cross Wave is a top quality, beautifully finished pushchair which is due in stores in Autumn 2016 and is a single to tandem pushchair for one child or two. There are 15 different combinations of seat units, carrycot and infant carrier. We believe that the patented tandem “Wave adaptors” are in built into the seat, so that there are no loose parts to add when a double pushchair is required. Very clever!

Bearing similarities to the Silver Cross Pioneer, with a very similar large basket, stitched leatherette handlebar and bumper bars, silver hood rim, and decent sized wheels, we are guaranteed a high quality finish to the Wave.  The overall feeling of design with the hood and well fitted fabrics is very much in keeping with the Pioneer and Wayfarer, although the chassis is matt silver rather than shiny.

We would guess that in line with the Silver Cross Pioneer and Wayfarer, that the single pushchair will come in the box with the carrycot and upper car seat adaptors included. The tandem seat will be an extra to purchase as your family grows. However, unlike the Pioneer and Wayfarer, the carrycot base isn’t simply black with a colour pack added. The base is the same colour as the apron and hood. Therefore it is possible that the carrycot may be sold separately.

The carrycot has a quilted lining, with a pleat design feature on the apron topped with the Silver Cross name plaque. The rear of the carrycot hood has a mesh panel which can be folded up to allow air flow for the child in summer, but folded down to keep them snug in winter. We love the grey fabric flick out visor on the carrycot, which looks very stylish.

The brake is the same as the Pioneer – step onto the red brake pedal to park, and step onto the tiny green round button to release. There is clearly front suspension, but we would anticipate there to be all round suspension on this single to double, tandem stroller, to ensure a good push. The wheels have a similar 5 spoke ‘star’ like the Pioneer.

The fold looks almost identical to the Pioneer and Wayfarer fold, with finger loops to pull the chassis shut towards you. There is an autolock to keep the chassis folded. Given this is a single pushchair size, we anticipate the folded size to be nearly identical to the Pioneer or the Wayfarer. The tandem seat will need removing to fold.

The main differences between the new Wave and the Pioneer seem to be that the Wave has a circular joint on the side, rather like the Surf than the Pioneer. The wide footrest on the front edge of the basket has been narrowed.

We suspect that the basket may be fairly inaccessible in some configurations, however Silver Cross have thought about a practical changing bag, and a rucksack style changing bag can be neatly hung onto the handlebar using leather clips. Excellent thinking!

We look forward to seeing all 15 configurations of their ‘Dream Package’. We have seen that can be a parent facing carrycot, with the toddler also parent facing behind, however we hope that Silver Cross have managed to get the nirvana parents all want i.e. the toddler to forward face whilst their baby sibling parent faces.

Having given the Silver Cross Pioneer a Best Buggy 5 Gold Star rating in our comprehensive review, we have high hopes that the Silver Cross Wave could be a truly excellent tandem pushchair that will grow with your family. We look forward to getting one into Best Buggy HQ for a test once the Silver Cross Wave goes on sale this autumn; and trying it out fully loaded up and down some kerbs!
